When you think of magic mushrooms, you probably immediately think of tripping. However, you don't always have to use magic mushrooms to get high, you can also use it for other purposes. A small amount of magic mushrooms could help you function better, be more balanced and may even have medicinal effects. Taking a small amount for this reason is also called microdosing (or microdosing). How do you handle this? We explain it to you in this blog.

What is microdosing?

With microdosing you will absolutely not trip. Because you only ingest psilocybin (active ingredient in magic mushrooms) in a small amount, this will not induce hallucinations or a trip feeling. With a microdose of psilocybin in your body you can feel calmer / more relaxed and your presentations can improve in certain areas. For example, consider working in the creative sector where you really have to think out-of-the-box. Several studies have shown that people who take a microdose of psilocybin  for an improved creativity, improved emotional well-being and a better everyday experience functionality.

With microdosing you absolutely do not have the feeling that you have ingested magic mushrooms. You shouldn't trip and space, that's not possible because you only took a very small dose.

Quantity of magic mushrooms for microdosing

With dry magic mushrooms it is recommended to take between 0.1 and 0.4 grams. If you have used magic mushrooms before, you could go a little closer to 0.4. Are you a beginner? Then stay between 0.1 and 0.2 grams. It is recommended to use a good scale to be sure of the amount. You can use all kinds of magic mushrooms for this. Where does microdosing actually come from?

Microdosing started with the drug LSD. It soon became apparent that people became very creative with this. dr. Alfred Hofmann regularly tested this and brought this to the attention. Did you know that, for example, Steve Jobs regularly microdosed to stimulate his brain?

How do you go about microdosing?

If you want to measure the effects properly, a fixed pattern is recommended. Experts and researchers all recommend roughly the same schedule. Microdosing researcher's scheme of James Fadiman often recurs during the microdosing process. This is a good starting point for a microdosing experiment. Fadiman assumes a 3-day cycle. According to him, it is advisable to follow these 8 to 10 weeks.

You can choose to follow a grid of James Fadiman, but you can also do what feels right yourself. This is of course entirely up to you.

DAY 1: Microdosing day

Take a day off, prepare yourself mentally and let's go! Take the microdose of mushrooms in the morning and experience your feeling during the microdosing. It is therefore advisable to take it in the morning, as you can feel energetic. This can strain your sleep. You can do a nice forest walk or make nice spot looking up in nature.

DAY 2: Transition day (no microdosing)

This day is important because your microdoses work through your brain for two days. It is therefore important today to describe your feeling and your perception compared to yesterday. What are you feeling today? Do you still feel different than usual? Take notes.

DAY 3: Normal day (no microdosing)

Today you will feel as usual again. What is different from previous days? It is important to keep this in mind. Experience emotions, thoughts and perceptions.

It is therefore recommended to follow this cycle for 8 to 10 weeks. Pay close attention to what you feel and what you perceive. Write down goals for yourself, what do you want answers to and what do you run into? The microdosing process can make you look at things differently and you may find answers to your questions.

What are the disadvantages of microdosing?

There are not many complaints / negative effects if you microdose in the right way. The most common complaint is fatigue. This is because your body experiences quite a few new stimuli and has to respond to them.

Does the fatigue (or any other possible complaint) persist? Then you can interrupt the cycle by taking a break. Listen carefully to your body during this process.
