With these San Pedro seeds (Trichocereus bridgesii), you can grow your own Bolivian Torch cacti from seed. Trichocereus bridgesii, also known as Echinopsis lageniformis, is a distinctive columnar cactus native to Bolivia. The cactus develops green to blue-green, ribbed stems and, under suitable conditions, can grow into a large specimen.
Trichocereus bridgesii is a South American cactus species native to Bolivia and known for its upright, columnar growth habit and clearly defined ribs. Mature specimens can grow to several metres in height in their natural habitat. Bolivian Torch may naturally contain the alkaloid mescaline.
Before sowing, use a clean tray with a well-draining growing medium. Scatter the seeds over the surface and press them in gently without covering them completely with soil. Moisten the growing medium evenly and cover the tray to maintain high humidity during germination.
Place the tray in a warm, bright spot out of direct sunlight. Keep the growing medium slightly moist during the germination period, but avoid leaving it waterlogged for long periods. Once the seedlings have developed, you can gradually acclimatise them to lower humidity by increasing ventilation.
Allow the young cacti to gradually acclimatise to more light. As the plants grow larger and stronger, watering can be reduced. Allow the growing medium to dry out more and more between waterings. Repot the young cacti when they are sufficiently developed and need more space.
