With this small San Pedro Cristaat Lime (Trichocereus pachanoi), you’ll be bringing an eye-catching and unusual cactus into your home. This cristata variety is distinguished by its characteristic, undulating growth crest. Instead of growing solely straight upwards, multiple growth points develop side by side, giving the cactus its distinctive crest-like shape.
Trichocereus pachanoi, also known as Echinopsis pachanoi, is a South American columnar cactus native to the Andes region. ‘Cristata’ refers to a distinctive growth form in which the growing tip widens, creating a wavy, crest-like structure. As a result, each specimen has its own unique shape and appearance. San Pedro may naturally contain the alkaloid mescaline.
Place the San Pedro Cristata Lime in a light, dry and well-ventilated spot. Allow the cactus to gradually acclimatise to strong direct sunlight and protect the plant from frost. Use a well-draining substrate suitable for cacti and ensure that excess water can drain easily from the pot.
During the active growing season, water when the substrate has dried out completely. Water thoroughly and allow any excess water to drain from the pot. Do not leave the cactus standing in wet soil or standing water for long periods, as this increases the risk of root rot.
Reduce watering during the cooler months when the cactus is growing less actively. The amount and frequency required depend on factors such as temperature, light, pot size and growing medium. If in doubt, it is better to wait until the growing medium has dried out thoroughly before watering again. Avoid prolonged dampness and keep the cactus out of reach of children.
