San Pedro Pachanoi (Trichocereus) in a large pot, 35–50 cm tall, is a sturdy, thick-stemmed cactus with the characteristic columnar appearance of Trichocereus pachanoi. The cactus is supplied in a pot, is 35 to 50 cm tall and has a stem diameter of 6 to 15 cm.
San Pedro is a columnar cactus native to the Andes. It grows naturally in Ecuador and Peru, as well as in Bolivia, Colombia and Chile. In the wild, the cactus usually reaches a height of 3 to 6 metres, with light to dark green trunks typically featuring 6 to 8 ribs. Large, strongly scented white flowers appear at the tips of the stems, opening at night. The cactus naturally contains mescaline. Botanically, the species is also known as Echinopsis pachanoi; in the Andes it is called, amongst other names, huachuma, and it is cultivated worldwide as an ornamental plant.
San Pedro prefers a bright spot and tolerates direct sunlight well. When moving the cactus to a new location, allow it to gradually acclimatise to plenty of direct sunlight. During the growing season, water when the potting compost has dried out thoroughly and ensure that excess water can drain away easily. In winter, the cactus requires considerably less water if kept in a cool spot. Preferably use well-draining cactus compost.
