San Pedro Pachanoi (Trichocereus) in a small pot (25–35 cm) is a sturdy, thick-stemmed San Pedro cactus with the characteristic columnar growth of Trichocereus pachanoi. The cactus is supplied in a pot, is 25 to 35 cm tall and has a stem diameter of 6 to 15 cm.
San Pedro is a columnar cactus native to the Andes. It grows naturally in Ecuador and Peru, as well as in Bolivia, Colombia and Chile. In the wild, the cactus can grow several metres tall and develops green, ribbed stems. Mature specimens may produce large, white flowers that open at night. The cactus naturally contains mescaline. Botanically, the species is also known as Echinopsis pachanoi; in the Andes it is known as huachuma, amongst other names, and is cultivated worldwide as an ornamental plant.
San Pedro thrives in a bright spot and tolerates direct sunlight well. When moving the cactus to a new location, allow it to gradually acclimatise to plenty of direct sunlight. During the growing season, water when the potting compost has dried out thoroughly and ensure that excess water can drain away easily.
In winter, the cactus requires considerably less water when kept in a cool spot. Preferably use well-draining cactus compost.
