Trichocereus pachanoi - cristata (San Pedro) in pot

The San Pedro Cristata (Trichocereus Pachanoi) is unique for its growth, appearance and psychedelic powers. This dazzling cactus grows in the wild and is very rare. It is therefore unique that we can offer it in pot to our guests. A cactus in the shape of an organ pipe with a head resembling a brain lobe on the main stem. The head forms because this cactus has multiple growth points. Whereas the traditional San Pedro only grows in height, the head of San Pedro Cristata grows in all directions. This also characterises the crest on this psychedelic cactus.

Watering for Trichocereus pachanoi - cristata

1. Spring and Summer (Growth Period)

   • Water the cactus once every 2-3 weeks.
   • Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings.
   • Use a well-drained substrate (such as cactus soil with extra perlite or pumice) to prevent root rot.

2. Autumn and winter (dormancy period)

   • Stop watering or give a very small amount at most once a month.
   • The cactus needs almost no moisture during this period because growth slows down and colder temperatures increase the risk of rot.

3. How to water

   • Use the "soak and dry" method: water generously until it runs out of the drainage holes, but make sure the water does not remain standing.
   • Use rainwater or distilled water if your tap water contains a lot of lime.

4. Extra tips

   • Too little water → The cactus will become wrinkly and soft.
   • Too much water → The base may turn brown and start to rot.
   • Ensure adequate light and ventilation to encourage evaporation and healthy growth.
