These raw cocoa beans from Bolivia come from the El Ceibo cooperative, an alliance of more than 1,200 smallholders in the Alto Beni region. The beans are carefully grown in agroforestry systems, where cocoa grows among fruit trees and other crops. This ensures not only a rich flavour, but also a product with authentic character and provenance. Cocoa has a long tradition worldwide within ceremonial settings and is valued for the experience and ritual surrounding it.
These cocoa beans consist of 100% pure, unprocessed cocoa with no additives. They are carefully fermented and dried to preserve optimum quality and flavour. The beans have a strong, bitter flavour and are versatile in use. Ideal for making cocoa drinks, incorporating into recipes or for those who want to get started preparing ceremonial cocoa themselves.
Raw cocoa beans from Bolivia.
The cocoa beans can be eaten directly or added crumbled to dishes. For a milder taste, you can lightly roast the beans, after which they are easier to peel and process.
To prepare a cocoa drink, lightly roast the beans (10 to 20 grams), remove the skin and grind them into a paste. Then mix this with warm (not boiling) water and stir well. As desired, you can add natural flavourings such as cinnamon or vanilla.
Packed per 200 grams.
