Ololiuqui

Ololiuqui are the seeds of Rivea corymbosa, a climbing plant from the Convolvulaceae family, sold under the McSmart brand. These days, the species is also known as Turbina corymbosa or Ipomoea corymbosa.

What is ololiuqui?

Rivea corymbosa is a perennial, woody climbing plant with white flowers, native to Latin America, from Mexico to Peru. The plant is also cultivated as an ornamental. The name ololiuqui comes from the Nahuatl language and means ‘round thing’; it refers to the small, brown, oval seeds. In northern and central Mexico, the plant has long been known to the indigenous population, whilst in Europe the seeds are less well known.
