Real Mad Honey Turkey is wild honey from the Black Sea region of Turkey, harvested by local beekeepers, mainly in the areas around the cities of Rize and Trabzon. In Turkey, this honey is called ‘deli bal’ or ‘delibal’, which means ‘crazy honey’. It is also known as ‘Mad Honey of the Caucasus’. According to Real Mad Honey, each batch of honey is analysed in a laboratory for Grayanotoxin I and III; the analysis reports are available on the brand’s website.
Mad honey is honey that naturally contains grayanotoxins. Bees produce the Turkish variety from the nectar of Rhododendron ponticum and Rhododendron luteum, flowers that contain these substances. Alongside Turkey, Nepal is a well-known region of origin; the Turkish honey is lighter in colour than the Nepalese variety. The honey was first described as early as 401 BC by the Greek historian Xenophon, near Trabzon.
Follow the instructions on the packaging regarding use and the recommended amount. Do not exceed the maximum amount specified by the manufacturer. Mad honey contains grayanotoxins and excessive consumption can cause serious health problems.
Store in a cool, dark place and out of the reach of children.
